The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder. This can only mean one thing – winter is coming.
The increasingly chilly weather means that it’s now getting to that time of year when we all start to think about switching our heating system back on – so here are our top tips for making sure you get the most out of your heating system this winter.

1. DEALING WITH AIR IN THE SYSTEM
One of the most common heating issues that people encounter is a radiator with air trapped inside it. If your heating system is on but your radiator is cold to touch, or is warm at the bottom but not at the top, it might be time to bleed it. Check out our blog post for an easy step-by-step guide on how to bleed your radiators.
2. INSULATE YOUR PIPES
Frozen pipes is an issue that we are regularly called out to deal with during the winter months. A way of helping to prevent this, however, is to ensure that your pipes are properly insulated, or ‘lagged’. This will not only reduce the danger of your pipes freezing, but will also maximise the efficiency of your heating system.
3. GET YOUR SYSTEM CHECKED WHILE IT’S STILL WARM
The most important thing you can do to make sure you get the most out of your heating system during the cold winter months is to make sure you have your boiler
serviced and checked over by a qualified plumber before the cold sets in. This means that any problems or potential issues can be flagged up while the weather is still mild and means you won’t be stuck in a house with no heating.
